i have a friend taking italian lessons whose non-native italian teacher didn't know the word. but someone else said it's kind of colloquial.

Re: translate "instigato" please?
Sun, May 14, 2006 - 11:31 AMinstigato means to be "instigated" upon. I don't think there is a word for instigator....could be instigatore.

Sun, May 14, 2006 - 11:38 AMCorrect. The correct spelling should be "istigato" though, with no N.

Nope, it's a common term with no particular connotation (i.e. it's not formal, or colloquial, or dialectism, etc).
Ro, "istigatore" is correct, as well as "istigazione" etc. -

Re: translate "instigato" please?
Mon, May 15, 2006 - 11:13 AMYour friend's Italian teacher should have at least recognized "istigato" as a regular past particple structure of "istigare". Maybe there is no choice, but your friend may want to find a native speaking Italian teacher; native speakers can generally teach the nuances of the language much more effectively.

Re: translate "instigato" please?
Mon, May 15, 2006 - 6:25 PMshe knows istigato, but someone else had told me instigato was colloquial. found out they based that on surfing the web, and probably found the word instigator w/ the r missing, just a typo...

L'altro giorno ho scritto "o" come prima persona presente della voce del verbo 'avere'. Era dalla seconda elementare che non mi capitava... ti sono vicina ;)
No, 'istigare' non è per niente colloquiale, anzi, ha anche origine colta, nel senso che è passato direttamente dal latino all'italiano. Strano che a un italiano suoni colloquiale...
